ARRL
Illinois Section Manager
Thomas T. Ciciora, KA9QPN
I’m
happy to be able to serve as your Illinois Section Manager. I’ve been interested
in radio since a child. I was first licensed in 1983, and have devoted
my operating time to repeater ownership and maintenance, UHF/VHF weak signal
work, FSTV, and public service communications. I currently hold a General
Class license.
Professionally, I’ve made
a living in the electric motor and control business for over 30 years.
I am currently employed by a manufacturers’ representative of the leading
line of electric motors and controls. I have also been involved in Emergency
Management for many years. I have been the Director of Emergency Management
for Sandwich IL since 2003. I also serve our local Property Owners’ Association
in various capacities.
My wife Annamarie and I
have been married for over thirty years, and have two grown children and
five (so far) grandchildren.
Our Service is at a crossroads.
We can either take the path of serving ourselves and watch our numbers
and usefulness diminish, or we can take the high road by becoming the premier
emergency communicators of our nation. I firmly believe that only by making
ourselves indispensable to our communities can we preserve this great Service.
We need to work to make Amateur Radio a part of every public entity’s emergency
operations plan. We need to become versed in the needs of our Served Agencies
by studying the ARECC courses and NIMS practices. The days of waiting for
the Served Agencies to come to us are past. We need to train to produce
a viable EmComm product and offer that aggressively to our communities,
without getting caught up in the ‘pseudo public safety wannabee’ trap that
others have fallen into. I know that you are all up for the challenge,
as we’ve made a lot of progress already.
Thank you for your support
and confidence.

Section Information |
The
15 Divisions of the League are arranged into 71
administrative Sections, each headed
by an elected Section Manager (SM).
(The Central Division consists of three sections; Illinois,
Indiana
and Wisconsin.)
Your Section
Manager is the person to contact when you have news about your activities,
or those of your radio club. Click on these Section
Links for information about your Section Manager and other Section
Representatives. These news items could find their way into the Section
News. If you need assistance with a local problem, your section
manager is your first point of contact. He or she can put you in touch
with various ARRL volunteers who can help (such as technical specialists).
Your section manager is also the person to see if you'd like to become
a section volunteer. Whatever your license class, your SM has an appointment
available.
